The project has received funding from several sources including Awards 4 All, Barrow Borough Council, Respect, Barrow CDRP, The Central and Hindpool Neighbourhood Management Team and West lakes Renaissance, Sir John Fisher Foundation, Our Green Space and Cumbria County Council.
Barrow CDRP provided funding which was used to conduct the original site clearance work in preparation for the soil analysis survey.
Barrow Borough Council provided initial "start up" funding which was needed to conduct the soil survey work and submit the original planning application etc.
Cumbria County Councils, Local Area Committee for Barrow has provided a 3 year, index linked grant which can be used towards operational costs of the project until 2012.
The Awards 4 All grants has been used to purchase computer equipment, such as PC, laptop, printer and projector, and to set up the project office in the community building at 40 Arthur Street. Part of a Respect Taking a Stand Award also helped to set up the project office.
West Lakes Renaissance has provided the main capital funding for the garden project and also funding specific to the consultation process, expenses and professional fees.
The Central and Hindpool Neighbourhood Management Team provided the funding needed for the committee to employ and part time project coordinator and to help provide for our CCTV system.
We have also received a substantial grant from the Open Spaces Green Space project, a 3 year Cumbria wide scheme supported The Heritage Lottery Funds "Your heritage" grant. This is exciting as it can be used to enhance the garden and is about helping people to participate in learning about our social, industrial and historic heritage.
Funding from the Sir John Fisher Foundation has helped us to provide new gates for a railway arch.
